The Design Process of Porcelain Scroll Mezuzah case

1. Shaping the Mezuzah case

The Scroll Mezuzah's shape was derived from ancient scroll jars found in the Judean desert. I wanted the mezuzah shape to reflect its connection to Jewish history and heritage, To connect with our ancestors, from a current design point of view.

2. Calligraphy

The letter ש was created for Ceremonials by the calligrapher Izzy Pludwinski.
I asked him to create a modern interpretation of the ancient Hebrew script found in the Dead sea scrolls. Izzy Created all the Hebrew letters we use in our designs and he even drew Ceremonials logo! All the scroll images were taken from here.

3. Colors

One of my main passions is colors. So I tested dozens of colors, checking them at different times of the day, different lighting environments and different backgrounds.

After a long process 3 colors were selected:
Silver grey a very pale grey with a hint of lavender
Warm Terracotta somewhere between orange and pink
Dark Teal which is just a few steps from black, with a hint of green.

4. Packaging

An ecological paper packaging that contains hanging instructions as well as the Mezuzah placement blessing.
